1 Tuition rates given for 2008-2009 academic year. Non-LDS students: Because a significant portion of the university's operating costs are paid from the tithes of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, students who are tithe-paying members of the LDS Church have already contributed to the operation of the university. Non-LDS students, because they will not have made this contribution, are charged a higher rate of tuition. The practice is similar in principle to that of state universities that generally charge non-residents a higher rate than residents.
