Honor Code:

As a church sponsored university, BYU expects students and faculty to behave in ways that promote a climate supportive of traditional religious ideals.  Most behavioral standards are consistent with high expectations of personal decorum found in both religious and non-religious settings.  A few are unique to religious settings and to LDS religious settings in particular.  Prospective applicants should acquaint themselves thoroughly with these, because in some cases a decision to attend BYU might necessitate some changes in lifestyle.  The complete statement is found at the Honor Code Office site.  Please note that the University is serious about its honor code, and violations can, depending upon severity, result in immediate dismissal.  Students should also be aware that the required yearly ecclesiastical endorsement is administered by their authorized ecclesiastical leader and is facilitated and processed by the Honor Code Office.  The endorsement can be withdrawn by the ecclesiastical leader if violations become known, resulting in the inability to register or complete the degree.  The academic department is not involved in the ecclesiastical endorsement process, but may be involved in allegations of which they become aware (such as plagiarism).  Alleged violations of the Honor Code are investigated and processed by the Honor Code Office.
