Alumnus: Ryan Barney

Meet a member of the BYU Psych Class of 2011: Ryan Barney. Ryan (He/Him/His) is from Draper, UT, and enjoys golfing, reading, and mountain biking. He has been married to his wife, Heidi, for 11 years and has 3 kids. A fun fact about Ryan is that he has lived in 5 different states since graduating from BYU!

Originally drawn to our program by an interest in mental health and an opportunity to help people, Ryan has since completed a Master’s Degree in Clinical Social Work, been commissioned into the Air Force, and is now working on a PhD in Social Work. He says that “Psychology was the perfect springboard into graduate work and the mental health field.” His advice to all of us current psych students is to “Explore all different academic and professional avenues, as there rarely is only one way to get to where you want to be!”
