Research Interests:

  1. To create and evaluate effective behavioral weight control programs for children and adolescents.
  2. To investigate the psychological and social experiences of overweight and obese youth (e.g. peer victimization; quality of life).
  3. To assess the utility of innovative technologies in pediatric obesity prevention and intervention.
  4. To examine peer and parental influences on child and adolescent weight control.

Monica Martinez

About: Monica Martinez is a second-year doctoral graduate student in the Clinical Psychology program. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Psychology with a minor in Health Sciences at the University of Florida in 2017 and her Master's degree in Psychology from Drexel University in 2020. Her research interests include understanding methods to increase healthy eating behaviors and physical activity in children and adolescents while also focusing on healthy body image development. She is particularly interested in the role group membership and sports participation have on these outcomes.

About: I really enjoy pediatric psychology and school/educational psychology, especially school psychology relating to improving learning in elementary school students. I'm also very interested in stress management!

Ty Tenney

Major: Exercise Science
About: Ty is an undergraduate senior and a former student athlete. He enjoys studying and researching in the subfields if sport/performance psychology and health psychology and plans to pursue graduate school in applied sport psychology.
