These are research opportunities currently available at BYU. Some may be available as capstone positions if you have fulfilled the psychology capstone prerequisites, so please read postings carefully.

BYU M.O.R.E.

Beginning Fall 2020
Dr. Roy Bean from the School of Family Life is looking for research assistants interested in helping with his Minority-Oriented Research Evaluation (MORE) project. This is an ongoing study of social science research and its attention to ethnic minorities. Research assistants will categorize research articles based on methodology and sample characteristics. Dr. Bean will also provide students with information about graduate school (especially clinical programs), the application process, and what admissions committees look for in students.

Benefits to involved students include:

  • Greater familiarity with PsycINFO (digital database for social science research)
  • Increased ability to dissect and understand the structure of journal articles
  • Insight into the larger breadth of social science research topics (clinical and non-clinical)
  • Awareness of the relative under-supply of research focused on racial/ethnic/cultural minorities.

This opportunity is open to all majors of any class standing. Non-psych majors and non-capstone seeking psych students can earn credit for this class by contacting the MORE team and signing up for SFL 403R. Psych capstone students can sign up for capstone credit for this project by contacting the MORE team and filling out the add code request form listed here for Dr. Bean's section of Psych 430R. If you have any questions, please contact the MORE team at byumore@byu.edu.

Capstone Research Opportunities

If you are a student looking for a research assistantship to fulfill your capstone credit requirement, we recommend that you reach out to professors directly to see if they have positions available in their labs for capstone research assistants. If you would like, you can peruse faculty research interests by their research areas by clicking here. If you find a research position that you would like to use for your capstone, please fill out our add code request form listed here.

If you are a student that has applied for graduation for Summer 2020 and either A) your capstone experience was cancelled due to COVID-19 or B) you are having difficulty finding a capstone experience before you graduate due to restricted opportunities, please contact Psych Student Services at psychservices@byu.edu. There are limited research opportunities available that they can assign you to on a first come, first served basis. They will do their best to help you find a capstone on time.
