Katie McCarty

This Psych Spotlight was included in the weekly newsletter on March 11, 2022.

Our spotlight for this week is Katie McCarty, a freshman in the psych major from a small town in Southern Maine called Cornish! While studying psych at BYU, Katie is also minoring in Spanish, part of the First Generation Student Organization, and is always looking for new things to get involved in. Some of Katie’s hobbies include traveling, hiking, and she has recently taken up roller skating. A fun fact about Katie is that she has been to Japan because she has family that lives there! When asked what originally drew her to the psych major, Katie replied, “I’ve always had psychology in the back of my mind, but I was actually a pre-nursing major last semester. I’m in my second semester here at BYU and decided to become a psychology major, and it’s the best decision I’ve ever made! I want to help others and show love to them, and I think that learning about the mind is one of the best ways to do that.” After graduating, Katie currently plans on pursuing forensic psychology so that she can ensure that justice is carried out and people can receive the help that they need.
