Sydney Christensen

Meet Sydney Christensen! Sydney (she/her) is a junior in our program, with a minor in Japanese. She is originally from Boise, ID, though she has lived in 7 different states throughout her life. She is a member of BYU’s OCD Club and the Psych Association. She loves traveling, being with family and friends, trying new foods, running, sports, working out, and shopping!

Sydney was originally drawn to our major because of a love of working with and talking to people, and one class that has greatly impacted her is Psych 306. She shared, “I’ve loved Psychology of Gender! It has opened my eyes to lots of different subjects regarding sexism, racism, empathy, etc.” She was able to put her love of working with people in action last year while working at a treatment center (in Heber) that focuses on boys with autism. Sydney shares, “Through that experience I learned so much about the importance of belonging, acceptance, and love.”

Her advice to fellow psych majors is simple: “Reach out and get to know the people around you because you never know when it will be an opportunity to connect with someone, which could later turn into a meaningful relationship or academic opportunity!” We could not agree more!

Sydney currently plans to go to grad school for either social work, counseling psych, or marriage and family therapy. Her ultimate goal is to have her own private therapy practice one day!

Great to meet you, Sydney!
