Tavish King

Meet Tavish King! Tavish (He/Him) is from Birmingham, AL, and is a junior in the psychology major with a statistics minor.

One psychology class that has greatly impacted him was Psych 200-Preparing for Graduate School with Dr. Cobia. It helped him “learn the process and requirements to get into graduate school one day. It made setting and reaching your goals much easier and Dr. Cobia makes it very engaging and fun. He also provides resources that can help guide us in the process. It’s not as daunting now.”

A fun fact about Tavish is that before graduating high school, the longest time he and his identical twin brother were split apart was 3 days!

Some other facts about Tavish:

  • Member of BYU's Psych Association
  • Hobbies include camping, road trips, college football, child care
  • Originally drawn to psychology because he "wanted to make an early impact on human behavior by working with children. There are so many paths that lead to child development through the psychology program."
  • His advice to fellow students: "My advice to any psychology major is to just try any opportunity that falls down at your feet. Even if you feel like you don’t have the qualifications, fail and learn what those qualifications are and try again. E.g. submit a paper into “Intuition,” apply for lab jobs, email professors and meet with them, explore job opportunities, and explore your interests. I promise it will all work out."
  • Post-graduation plans: "I'm going to dive into the field of research and work with professors who share an interest in Autism research for children. I’m going to pursue a Ph.D. in experimental psychology or clinical child psychology. I have seen and explored the ways science has blessed the lives of children with neurodevelopmental disorders and I want to join that group and find ways to contribute to better healthcare resources and treatment plans that improve the quality of life for children and adults."
