Education
Intersectionality
Peer Mentorship

Being inclusive and collaborative with the diversity of students in the Psychology Department, the Education Subcommittee of our student-led Belonging & Diversity Committee helps to ensure that groups of underrepresented students will have the opportunity to personally share and authoritatively educate others about one specific aspect of their identity, with the support of Psychology Department faculty and others specialized in that area of diversity.

The Education Subcommittee leads out in planning and implementing the "Listen More" series, as one of three "PSYCHed About Belonging" initiatives in the Psychology Department.

Listen More is a monthly series in which the student-led Belonging & Diversity Committee partners with a campus resource office (e.g., Multicultural Student Services) or student club/organization to sponsor an invited presentation or panel, sometimes followed by a social gathering or event (e.g., Multicultural “Friendsgiving,” hosted every November). The purpose of the series is to enhance understanding within, heighten awareness about, or celebrate/serve with a specific underrepresented or marginalized group of students in the Psychology Department to enhance unity and belonging.

To be fully diverse, collaborative, and inclusive, the Intersectionality Subcommittee of our student-led Belonging & Diversity Committee helps to ensure that scaffolding is constructed for understanding and fostering various aspects of a person's social, political, and spiritual identities that might combine to create their unique identity.

The Intersectionality Subcommittee leads out in planning and implementing "You Matter!" events, as one of three "PSYCHed About Belonging" initiatives in the Psychology Department.

YOU Matter! is a periodic event, hosted in a campus booth near the Wilkinson Student Center or (preferably, to engage more psychology students) at a table near the Kimball Tower, during which passerbys are invited to consider how and why they matter in the campus community. Hot chocolate and/or cookies are provided, and students may opt to participate in a hands-on, interactive exercise.

Being inclusive and collaborative with the diversity of students in the Psychology Department, the Peer Mentorship Subcommittee of our student-led Belonging & Diversity Committee helps to ensure that, regardless of the aspects of students’ identity, they will have peers with similar backgrounds and identities that will mentor and support them in their journey of education, search for belonging, and quest for eternal life.

The Peer Mentorship Subcommittee leads out in planning and implementing "Connect 4 Success" gatherings, as one of three "PSYCHed About Belonging" initiatives in the Psychology Department.

Connect 4 Success is a casual monthly gathering of psychology students and resource personnel, all in one place (every 4 weeks), to foster belonging among undergraduate students and to support successful navigation of the major/minor. Each month, a different guest mentor representing a pertinent campus-resource office will begin the hour with a short presentation, followed by Q&A and mingling.
