Workshops

The Psychology Department's Belonging & Diversity Committee at BYU-Provo invites their locally enrolled undergraduate students (psychology majors) from all cultures and backgrounds to apply to participate in a paid mentored-research experience this spring, summer, fall, and/or winter.

We encourage psychology majors from disadvantaged and/or underrepresented populations to apply (including, but not limited to, first-generation and multicultural students). This opportunity is designed to help our majors become competitive in their graduate-school applications and, eventually, to launch a career in psychology. (NOTE: If you have already had a chance to participate in our Psychology Mentored Research Program, please do not re-apply; we are hoping to provide this mentored-research opportunity for as many individuals as possible, particularly those who have not yet benefitted from the experience.)

Daily responsibilities depend on the faculty member leading the research group to which the program participant is assigned (see Section 2 of the online application for additional details). These responsibilities may include data entry, interacting with research participants, following a research protocol, running statistical analyses, and/or preparing research reports. In most cases, no prior experience is required. Program participants will receive weekly mentoring and additional enrichment training, including supplemental workshop guidance on preparing for graduate school and participating at an academic conference.

For more information, please contact the Psychology Mentored Research Program director, Professor Dawn-Marie Wood, at dawn-marie.wood@byu.edu or the Psychology Department business manager, Jalene McDonald, at jalene_mcdonald@byu.edu.
